Jammu Kashmir Targets 50% Reduction in Road Accidents by 2030 with New Safety Policy

Jammu & Kashmir introduces Road Safety Policy 2025 to curb rising road accidents and fatalities. The policy aims for a 50% reduction in accidents by 2030. Key initiatives include:

  • Establishing a State Road Safety Council for better coordination.

  • District Road Safety Committees to address accident-prone areas.

  • Extensive public awareness campaigns.

  • Promoting public transport and non-motorized transport.

  • Holding contractors accountable for road construction quality.

The policy addresses the increasing number of vehicles and accidents, with 6,298 accidents and 893 fatalities reported in 2023. The Transport Minister emphasizes enhanced traffic enforcement.
