OpenAI Enhances ChatGPT Personalization with New Visual Style Controls

Edited by: Veronika Radoslavskaya

In December 2025, OpenAI updated the personalization settings within ChatGPT, introducing a refined toolset for controlling the character and format of AI responses. These new visual controls allow users to fine-tune AI behavior through a slider-based interface, reducing the reliance on complex manual text instructions.

Visual Style Controls (Sliders)

Located within the Personalization section, the new settings block features interactive sliders with three positions: More, Less, and Default. These controls target specific communication parameters rather than broad personas:

  • Warmth: Adjusts the emotional tone, ranging from a more empathetic and friendly approach to a drier, business-like delivery.
  • Enthusiasm: Controls the level of energy and expressiveness in the AI's responses.
  • Emoji use: Allows users to minimize or mandate the use of emojis in text output.
  • Headers & Lists: Manages the structural preference of the text, favoring either clear, organized lists and headings or standard paragraph prose.

Complementing Existing Styles

These visual adjustments are designed to complement, not replace, the existing suite of style presets. Users can still select a base style—such as Default, Professional, Friendly, Candid, Quirky, Efficient, Nerdy, or Cynical—and then use the sliders to further refine the output to their specific needs.

As of late December 2025, the following technical details apply:

  • Global Application: These settings apply to the current model interaction globally; the ability to save multiple distinct "Personality Profiles" is not currently available.
  • Text-Centric Update: The controls primarily influence text-based interactions. While they impact the content of what the AI says, direct integration with the pitch or tempo of Advanced Voice Mode has not been officially documented.

Availability

The updated personalization tools have begun rolling out to users on paid subscription tiers, including ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise. OpenAI has not yet provided an official timeline for when these visual controls will be made available to users on the free tier.
