Meta Launches Superintelligence Lab, Recruits AI Experts, and Invests Billions

On July 1, 2025, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the creation of Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL).

The new division will focus on developing artificial general intelligence (AGI).

Alexandr Wang, former CEO of Scale AI, was appointed Chief AI Officer of Meta and will lead the division.

Meta has recruited 11 researchers from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind.

Key hires include co-creators of OpenAI's o-series models and GPT-4o, as well as former leaders from DeepMind.

Meta also invested $14.3 billion to acquire a 49% stake in Scale AI.

This investment strengthens the collaboration between the two companies.

These moves reflect Meta's commitment to leading AGI development, aiming to create AI systems that match or surpass human intelligence.
