Edited by: Veronika Radoslavskaya

Indonesia is developing its AI capabilities with the open-source 'Sahabat-AI' model, now trained with over 72 billion parameters. The initiative is a collaboration between GoTo and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison. It aims to foster a sovereign AI ecosystem using local talent. Indonesia's government supports the Sahabat-AI initiative, aligning with its strategy to build a sovereign AI and strengthen the national digital ecosystem. The model focuses on processing local languages like Indonesian, Javanese, and Sundanese. Sahabat-AI has applications in e-commerce and customer service. GoTo made Sahabat-AI open-source to allow startups, academics, and government agencies to create their own chatbots. Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison provides infrastructure, including GPU Merdeka and local data centers, to support the development and use of Sahabat-AI.
