Hugging Face, an AI developer platform, has launched two open-source humanoid robot projects: HopeJR and Reachy Mini. These robots are designed to make robotics more accessible and customizable for developers in 2025.
HopeJR is a full-sized humanoid robot with 66 degrees of freedom, enabling a wide range of movements, including walking and object manipulation. Reachy Mini is a smaller, tabletop robot capable of head movement, speech, and listening, making it suitable for AI application testing.
Hugging Face plans to ship several units throughout 2025. Clem Delangue, co-founder and CEO, has highlighted the importance of open-source code in ensuring that the robotics field isn't dominated by a few major companies. Interested buyers can join a waitlist to purchase these robots in 2025.
