Google Launches "Personal Intelligence" Beta: Gemini Now Reasons Across Your Private Data

Edited by: Veronika Radoslavskaya

On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Google officially commenced the beta rollout of "Personal Intelligence," a landmark update for the Gemini AI assistant. This new capability allows the assistant to connect with and reason across a user’s proprietary Google application data—including Gmail, Photos, Search history, and YouTube history—to generate highly contextualized and proactive responses.

"The Best Assistants Know You"

Josh Woodward, VP of the Gemini app, Google Labs & AI Studio, confirmed the launch, highlighting that the feature directly addresses the demand for deeper personalization. Woodward stated: "The best assistants don't just know the world; they know you and help you navigate it."

The core innovation lies in Gemini's ability to perform complex reasoning across disparate data types. Unlike previous versions that functioned as simple search tools, Personal Intelligence allows for cross-application synthesis:

  • Advanced Problem Solving: Gemini can cross-reference vehicle specifications found in a Gmail attachment with past travel photos to recommend appropriate vehicle accessories.
  • Proactive Insights: The system can analyze a user's cooking interests based on YouTube history and search queries to suggest specific recipes or grocery lists tailored to their habits.

Powered by Gemini 3 and Deep Think

The feature leverages the advanced reasoning capabilities of the Gemini 3 model family. It specifically utilizes the logic found in Gemini 3 Deep Think, a specialized mode designed to explore multiple hypotheses and solve complex problems. By applying this technology to personal data, Gemini can now "connect the dots" between a user's scattered digital information.

Access and Availability

The beta rollout is currently structured as follows:

  • Target Audience: The feature is initially restricted to paid subscribers on the Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra plans in the United States.
  • Platform Support: Once enabled, Personal Intelligence works across the Gemini app on the web, Android, and iOS.
  • Opt-In Model: The experience is off by default. Users must explicitly decide when to connect their apps and can choose to link some services while keeping others private.

Privacy and Trust

To address inherent privacy concerns, Google emphasizes that Personal Intelligence is built on a foundation of user control. Google maintains that it does not use the private content of emails or photos to train its underlying Gemini models. Furthermore, because the data processing occurs within Google's secure servers, users are not required to share sensitive information outside the established ecosystem.
