Brussels, Belgium - The European Union (EU) has confirmed that the implementation of its Artificial Intelligence Act will proceed as scheduled, despite calls from major European companies for a delay.
EU Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier stated that there would be no postponement or exemptions to the AI Act's implementation. The Act aims to ensure the safe and ethical use of AI systems across the EU.
This decision comes after over 50 European companies, including Airbus, Carrefour, and Siemens Energy, requested a two-year delay for certain aspects of the law. The companies cited concerns about the complexity of the new regulations.
