AI and AgTech Transforming Agriculture in Argentina

At the Argentina Vision 2040 conference, experts discussed the significant impact of AgTech and artificial intelligence (AI) on the agricultural value chain. José Gobbee, CEO of Context Network, highlighted the shift in consumer demand towards sustainable food sources, noting that by 2028, there will be an additional global demand for 62 million tons of animal protein.

The rise of the middle class globally is driving this demand, with consumers looking for products that are not only affordable but also free from antibiotics and organic.

AI is rapidly changing the agricultural landscape, with Gobbee predicting it will play a role similar to electricity in the 20th century. He emphasized that AI technology is advancing at an unprecedented speed and low cost.

Economist Iván Ordoñez described the current era as a 'Third Green Revolution,' where AgTech is revolutionizing agricultural practices beyond just production. He noted that the agricultural sector in Argentina is particularly well-positioned for rapid technology adoption due to its young and educated producers.

Ordoñez pointed out that AgTech offers significant growth potential, especially in countries like the United States, Argentina, and Brazil, with its low entry barriers and reliance on georeferenced information.
