Edited by: Anna 🌎 Krasko

Mary Kikon achieved significant success at the 13th All Assam Inter District Masters Men & Women Classic Powerlifting Championship, 2024-25. She secured the gold medal in the Women's Masters 1 category, designed for competitors aged 40 to 49 years. Kikon also earned the title of Strongwoman of Assam, lifting a total weight of 352.5kgs.

Kikon, originally from Dimapur, Nagaland, now residing in Guwahati, Assam, expressed her happiness and empowerment at achieving this feat at 49 years old. She began powerlifting a year prior, encouraged by friends who noticed her natural strength during gym sessions. This led her to discover a new sense of purpose and confidence.

Kikon is now preparing for the national level championship in August and aims to participate in the open championship. Representing Assam as a Naga woman, she feels proud to represent both communities. She also hopes to contribute to establishing a powerlifting association in Nagaland, highlighting the absence of such an organization despite the presence of strong lifters in the state.
