Ikramul Hasan Shakil has achieved a record-breaking ascent of Mount Everest, becoming the youngest climber to reach the summit from sea level. He completed the journey, traversing the longest distance in the shortest time ever recorded for this type of expedition. Shakil reached the summit at 2:10 pm (Bangladesh time).
His "Sea to Summit" expedition commenced on February 25, 2025, starting from Cox's Bazar. Shakil, born on April 17, 1994, covered approximately 1,300 km in 90 days. This accomplishment marks him as the youngest and fastest individual to complete such a journey.
Shakil's expedition aimed to raise awareness about reducing single-use plastic pollution and lowering carbon emissions. He walked from Cox's Bazar, reaching Dhaka after 12 days. His journey spanned Bangladesh, India, and Nepal, culminating in the ascent of Everest, which stands 29,031 feet tall. Shakil surpassed the record set by Tim Macartney, who took over three months for a similar journey in 1990.
