Fifa Announces Club World Cup Play-Off: Lafc vs Club America

Edited by: Anna 🌎 Krasko

FIFA has announced a one-time play-off match between LAFC from MLS and Club America from Mexico. The match will determine the final participant in this summer's Club World Cup. The winner will take the place of Club Leon, who were disqualified for violating multi-club ownership regulations.

The play-off is scheduled for May 31 at BMO Stadium, LAFC's home ground. LAFC previously lost to Leon in the 2023 Concacaf Champions League final. Club America is the highest-ranked team in the confederation ranking that did not qualify.

Chelsea will be keenly observing this play-off, as they were initially slated to face Leon in Group D. The Club World Cup is set to commence on June 15 and conclude with the final on July 13. Manchester City is also participating in the 32-team competition.
