Sony Music France and Sony Music Publishing France have finalized the acquisition of Lusafrica and Africa Nostra. These entities are dedicated to promoting Lusophone and African artists globally. The move significantly broadens Sony Music's catalog and influence in world music.
Lusafrica, founded in 1988 by José Da Silva, has been pivotal in introducing Cape Verdean music to international audiences. Africa Nostra, established by Lusafrica, holds a catalog that largely overlaps with Lusafrica's recorded music collection. The combined catalog includes over 4,000 titles, positioning Sony Music as a key player.
The acquisition includes the entire discography of Cesária Évora, featuring hits like "Petit Pays" and "Sodade." Also included are works by Polo Montañez, such as "Un Montón de Estrellas." This strategic move aims to preserve and expand the legacy of Lusafrica and Africa Nostra, ensuring their music reaches new audiences.
