Sofia Ros Wins BBC Radio Scotland Award

Accordionist Sofía Ros has been awarded the BBC Radio Scotland Young Classical Musician of the Year. The final took place at Glasgow's City Halls on June 14, 2025.

Ros performed with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Andrew Gourlay. The event was hosted by Jamie MacDougall and featured three finalists: violinist Emma Baird and alto saxophonist Ziheng Huang.

The judging panel included Alice Farnham, Nick Zekulin, and Jennifer Martin. Sofía Ros expressed gratitude for the opportunity, highlighting the BBC's influence on her musical journey since moving to Scotland from Spain at age 13.

BBC Scotland's Director, Hayley Valentine, praised Ros and the high standard of the competition. Heather Kane-Darling, Commissioning Editor at BBC Radio Scotland, echoed this sentiment, expressing excitement for future performances.
