Shankar Mahadevan is leading a revolution in music by integrating AI technology. He recently collaborated with Google to explore Lyria, an AI music generator, marking a significant step in merging AI with musical composition.

At Google's I/O developer conference in Mountain View, California, on May 20, 2025, Lyria 2 was unveiled. Google Research Scientist Jason Baldridge presented it as a collaborative platform with musicians, creating a 'music AI sandbox'.

Mahadevan and his team used Lyria to compose 'Rubaro', showcasing its potential. By inputting specific requirements, Lyria generated a musical base, which Mahadevan praised as inspiring and capable of unlocking new creative avenues. This collaboration offers a glimpse into the future of music production, where AI empowers artists.

Known for his versatility across Bollywood, classical, and devotional genres, Shankar Mahadevan is at the forefront of this fusion of technology and artistry. Reflecting on the experience, Shankar added, “For a musician, it is such an inspiring tool. You open a door and you see there's another room... And then you open another room, and you have another door... That is what AI does.”
