Oscar-winning composer A. R. Rahman and singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh have unveiled their first collaborative song Kya Kamaal Hai, created for the film Main Vaapas Aaunga.

The music was composed by Rahman, with lyrics by poet Irshad Kamil — one of the most subtle authors of modern Indian film music. Their meeting in a single project forms a rare combination of cinematic lyricism and a musical space of memory.

The film by director Imtiaz Ali addresses the events of the 1947 Partition of India — one of the region's deepest historical traumas. In this context, the song Kya Kamaal Hai becomes not just a part of the soundtrack, but the emotional axis of the film, revealing themes of love, separation, and return.

Rahman's musical language traditionally connects classical Indian tradition, cinematic orchestration, and modern sound. In Diljit Dosanjh's performance, this line takes on a personal tone — the voice becomes a conduit for both memory and hope simultaneously.

The director himself views the song as a message of light and resilience in today's complex global context.

The film will be released on June 12, 2026. It stars Vedang Raina, Sharvari Wagh, and Naseeruddin Shah. For Dosanjh, this is already his second collaboration with Imtiaz Ali following the film Amar Singh Chamkila — a project that also demonstrated the power of musical storytelling as a form of historical memory.

Today, Indian film music once again resonates as a space where personal history connects with the history of the country — and it is through such songs that the past begins to speak the language of the present.

What did this event add to the sound of the planet?

Sometimes music restores a voice to those stories that cannot be told through words alone.

The meeting of Rahman and Dosanjh in the song Kya Kamaal Hai sounds like a reminder that even through separation and time, culture continues to seek a path toward return.

And that is precisely why music once again becomes a place where memory is transformed into hope.
