Irish rap trio Kneecap has released their new track, "The Recap," coinciding with their headline performance at London's Wide Awake festival on May 23, 2025. The release occurs amidst significant controversy, as member Liam O hAnnaidh, known as Mo Chara, faces a terror charge.
"The Recap" samples a news report addressing the counter-terrorism police investigation into the group and satirizes Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch's attempts to block their arts funding. The track also references the Conservative Party's election loss and features DJ Mozey.
O hAnnaidh was charged on May 21, 2025, with displaying a Hezbollah flag at a gig in November 2024. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on June 18. Despite the controversy, Kneecap's performance at the Wide Awake festival is set to proceed as planned.
