Ashley Monroe has released her sixth studio album, "Tennessee Lightning," on August 8, 2025. The 17-track collection chronicles Monroe's personal journey, including her battle with lymphoma, and explores themes of life, love, and resilience. The album signifies a creative resurgence for Monroe following her remission from cancer, imbued with a celebratory spirit.
"When I finally went into remission, I could feel the life and the music start flowing in my veins again. It was like a flood, just this rush of inspiration," Monroe shared. This renewed creative energy is evident throughout "Tennessee Lightning," which features collaborations with artists such as Marty Stuart, Shelby Lynne, T Bone Burnett, and Brittney Spencer. Co-produced by Monroe and Gena Johnson, the album blends diverse influences from country and folk to blues, soul, and pop, reflecting Monroe's evolving artistic vision.
In addition to the new album, Monroe recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of her critically acclaimed 2015 album, "The Blade." She marked this milestone with a special performance in Nashville on July 25, playing the album in its entirety. "The Blade," which received a Grammy nomination for Best Country Album, was produced by Vince Gill and Justin Niebank and included co-writes with artists like Chris Stapleton and Miranda Lambert. "Tennessee Lightning" is described as more than just a musical offering; it's a narrative of overcoming adversity and embracing life with gratitude, showcasing Monroe's personal growth and artistic evolution.
