Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman Team Up to Buy Australian Sailing Team BONDS Flying Roos

Following the success of their Wrexham AFC takeover, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are joining forces in a new sporting venture. The duo has announced their ownership of the Australian sailing team, BONDS Flying Roos, which competes in the SailGP international sailing competition.

The team's rebranding marks a significant step for Reynolds, who, alongside Rob McElhenney, has transformed Wrexham AFC. The Welsh club's rise from non-league to the Championship in just four seasons has put them on the global map.

Reynolds and Jackman's investment in the BONDS Flying Roos is estimated to be at least $50 million. This marks Jackman's first foray into sports ownership. Reynolds and McElhenney also hold stakes in other sports teams.

Reynolds's net worth is estimated at $400 million. He was ranked as one of Hollywood's highest earners in 2024. His earnings come from box office hits and savvy investments, including Aviation Gin and Mint Mobile.

Reynolds has been married to Blake Lively since 2012. The couple has four children. Lively has often supported Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground. Before Lively, Reynolds was engaged to Alanis Morissette and married to Scarlett Johansson.

The Wrexham takeover was not initially Reynolds's idea. It was McElhenney who was inspired by British comedy writer Humphrey Ker. Ker recommended that he watch Netflix series Sunderland 'Til I Die. McElhenney then reached out to Reynolds to secure further investment.

In November 2020, the duo bought Wrexham for £2 million. They have since become close friends. McElhenney describes Reynolds as a "kind and generous soul."
