U2 frontman Bono, in a recent interview, alluded to a possible past romance between his wife, Ali Hewson, and his bandmate, The Edge (David Howell Evans).

Speaking on 'The Project,' Bono discussed his upcoming documentary, 'Bono: Stories of Surrender,' and touched upon the close relationship between Ali and The Edge. He mentioned that speculation about them being 'an item' was 'still a sore subject'.

Bono explained that Ali and David were the 'two cleverest' in their year at school. He humorously added that Ali seemed very interested in David's guitar playing, leading Bono to become the 'class clown' to win her over. Despite the past, Bono emphasized the strong bond between his wife and bandmate, noting they are still very close and often talk about him, supposedly out of concern. He considers them both constants in his life, providing unwavering support.

Bono praised Ali for her support since he was 15, acknowledging he wouldn't have achieved his musical success without her. He also emphasized the importance of The Edge, Adam, and Larry to his artistry, and Ali to his personal life. Bono and Ali have been married since 1982 and have four children.

Bono's documentary, 'Bono: Stories of Surrender,' premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, receiving a seven-minute standing ovation. The documentary will be available on Apple TV+ on May 30.
