Six months after the tragic death of Liam Payne, the One Direction star, details regarding his estate have emerged. Payne passed away on October 16, 2024, at the age of 31, after falling from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.
The singer reportedly died without a will, leaving behind an estate worth £24.3 million (approximately €28.5 million). Due to the laws of intestacy in England and Wales, his son, Bear, will inherit the fortune, managed by his mother, Cheryl Tweedy, and music industry lawyer Richard Mark Bray until he reaches adulthood.
Tweedy and Bray have been granted limited representation, allowing them to preserve the estate but not distribute it. Sources suggest Tweedy may place the funds in a trust for Bear's benefit. The gross value of Payne's estate is £28,594,888 (€33,610,827), with a net value of £24,279,728 (€28,541,358) after debts and expenses.
Prior to his death, Payne was vacationing in Argentina with his then-girlfriend, Kate Cassidy. Cassidy had left the country days before the incident. She learned of Payne's death through a phone call and described the experience as heartbreaking.
An autopsy revealed Payne's death was caused by "multiple traumas" and internal and external bleeding. Toxicology reports indicated the presence of numerous drugs in his system at the time of the fall, suggesting he was unconscious.
Argentine authorities have cleared three of the five individuals initially accused in connection with Payne's death. Two others remain in custody, facing charges for allegedly supplying him with drugs on the day of his death. The investigation is ongoing.
Payne's legacy was honored at the Brit Awards 2025, with a tribute led by comedian Jack Whitehall. Payne's family has requested privacy to grieve, expressing distress over media speculation surrounding his death and its impact on his son.
