Jennie Garth Criticizes Oscars for Omitting Shannen Doherty from In Memoriam; Michelle Trachtenberg Also Snubbed

Jennie Garth has publicly criticized the Academy of Motion Picture Arts for failing to include her late 'Beverly Hills, 90210' co-star, Shannen Doherty, in the Oscars' In Memoriam segment. Garth expressed disappointment and hinted at a possible apology from the Academy. Doherty, who passed away in July 2024 after a battle with breast cancer, was a well-known television and film actress.

The In Memoriam segment also omitted Michelle Trachtenberg, known for her roles in 'Harriet the Spy' and 'Gossip Girl,' who died unexpectedly in February 2024. Fans expressed outrage over Trachtenberg's exclusion, noting her significant contributions to television. While some speculated that Trachtenberg's primary focus on television work may have been a factor, others pointed out Doherty's extensive filmography as well.

Doherty was included in the In Memoriam tribute at the Screen Actors Guild Awards just a week before the Oscars. The Oscars segment did include actors such as David Lynch, Maggie Smith, James Earl Jones and Donald Sutherland, and gave a special shoutout to Gene Hackman.
