The Government of Tajikistan has approved the Agricultural Digitalization Program for 2025–2029, aiming to modernize the country's agricultural sector through the adoption of digital technologies. Developed with technical assistance from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the program seeks to increase productivity, improve food security, enhance public service delivery, and build climate resilience.
Key objectives of the program include investing in infrastructure, developing digital public services, expanding digital skills and literacy, and fostering a dynamic market ecosystem for digital agriculture solutions. Strategic priorities encompass improving access to weather and pest forecasts, increasing transparency and traceability, strengthening planning and data systems within the Ministry of Agriculture, and equipping producers with the knowledge and tools needed to participate in digitally enabled value chains.
The program's implementation will be phased, with annual monitoring to ensure adaptive management and policy learning. FAO remains committed to supporting the next steps, including resource mobilization, development of e-government systems, capacity development, and piloting digital tools at scale.
This initiative aligns with global efforts to leverage digital technologies for sustainable agricultural development. Similar digital agriculture solutions have been promoted by international organizations to enhance food security in various developing nations, including precision farming techniques and the use of data analytics to optimize crop yields and resource management.
