LG Unveils Proactive AI for 'Zero Labor Home' Vision at CES 2026

Edited by: Olga Samsonova

LG Electronics formally introduced its "Zero Labor Home" concept in Las Vegas during its annual pre-CES event, the LG World Premiere, articulating a future powered by proactive artificial intelligence termed "AI in Action." This strategic vision moves beyond simple reactive voice commands, aiming for systems that automatically anticipate and fulfill user requirements across the domestic sphere. The company's philosophy has evolved to action-oriented intelligence that actively manages devices and services based on inferred user intent, with the ultimate goal being to give time back to customers, according to LG President Lyu Jae-cheol.

The physical manifestation of this autonomous domestic future is the LG CLOiD home robot, a sophisticated humanoid agent designed for learning environments and executing complex, multi-step chores. CLOiD features a head unit housing the main chipset, a display, speakers, cameras, and generative AI, allowing it to communicate with human users through spoken language and simulated "facial expressions." Its hardware includes a torso with two articulated arms, each possessing seven degrees of freedom mirroring human mobility, and five independently actuated fingers for fine manipulation, enabling tasks such as folding laundry and tidying dishes. The robot utilizes a wheeled base with autonomous navigation technology, derived in part from LG's robot vacuum products like the LG Q9, and its tilting torso allows it to adjust height to interact with objects from knee level upward.

Central to the kitchen innovations within this ecosystem is the LG SIGNATURE appliance lineup, which integrates Conversational AI powered by Large Language Models (LLM) for more natural, human-like interactions. The refrigerator component leverages an internal camera and ThinQ Food technology to perform Ingredient Recognition, subsequently offering personalized recipe suggestions based on available stock and recommending substitutions. This represents an advancement over prior smart appliances, as the LLM allows the fridge to process natural language queries for meal ideas.

The cooking apparatus in the premium line, the LG SIGNATURE Oven Range, incorporates Gourmet AI, which employs an internal AI camera to identify over 85 distinct dishes automatically. Upon identification, the system autonomously sets the optimal cooking parameters for the selected dish. Furthermore, an AI Browning feature monitors items like bread during baking, sending a notification via the ThinQ mobile application when the preset level of doneness is achieved. This entire interconnected domestic architecture is managed and orchestrated by the ThinQ platform, which acts as the unifying smart home hub, integrating machine learning and cloud connectivity to analyze user behavior patterns and adjust appliance performance in real time.

The CLOiD robot coordinates its actions directly with these ThinQ-enabled appliances to manage household priorities, demonstrating a shift toward a unified system where intelligent devices operate on behalf of users to reduce both physical effort and mental load. This comprehensive approach, unveiled ahead of CES 2026, signals a transition in domestic automation, positioning LG to redefine the standards for household efficiency and convenience in the emerging era of Physical AI.
