Janko Bjosha's Political Drama "Morning After" Set for November 2025 Theatrical Release
Edited by: Anulyazolotko Anulyazolotko
The cinematic debut of "Morning After," a compelling political drama helmed by director Janko Bjosha, is scheduled for November 19, 2025, with a premiere screening at the Cineplex cinema in Skopje. Following this initial showing, the film will rapidly expand its reach. Starting the very next day, November 20, 2025, audiences across North Macedonia will be able to view the picture in theaters. This nationwide release includes key cities such as Shtip, Veles, Bogdanci, Struga, and Kriva Palanka, ensuring broad accessibility for moviegoers.
Positioned firmly within the political drama genre, "Morning After" delves into the profound consequences that follow pivotal state decisions. The narrative draws direct inspiration from the turbulent real-life events that unfolded on April 27, 2017. The plot intricately weaves together two central threads: the professional life of a Macedonian official who finds himself under intense scrutiny from the highest echelons of power, and a deeply personal love story that attempts to flourish despite rigid systemic limitations.
Janko Bjosha, who not only directed the film but also served as its screenwriter and composer, emphasized that the project centers on the power of acting and the depth of the human element within a political framework. Bjosha articulated a specific desire to engage performers possessing a significant human presence, focusing attention on the authenticity of the real people they portray on screen. The production phase spanned 75 shooting days, a process which, according to the director, brought him exceptional personal satisfaction.
Executive Producer Dejan Miloshevski clarified the project's unique evolution, noting that the material was initially conceived and shot as a television series. It was only upon the conclusion of filming that the production team realized they had amassed sufficient footage for a substantial feature film. Beyond the forthcoming full-length cinematic release, plans are underway to release the original material as a five-episode series, with each installment running for 55 minutes.
The leading roles in this ambitious project are taken by Nina Dean and Irena Ilievska. The extensive supporting ensemble features a roster of talented actors, including Goce Andonov, Jana Nikodinovska, Keti Donchevska Ilić, Bayram Severdzhan, Goran Stojanoski, Vasil Zafircheski, Robert Veljanovski, Blagoj Veselinov, Jana Veljanovska, and Dimitar Mitskoski. Bjosha dedicated the film specifically to the women of Macedonia who are prepared to stand up for their families and communities, a theme directly inspired by the spirit of resistance observed during May 2014 and May 2017.
Within the dramatic context, the film explores complex moral transformations. One protagonist, Aida, faces profound injustice in court following a sexual assault, leading her character arc to shift dramatically from victim to aggressor. Simultaneously, Joana is relentlessly pursued by a corrupt political elite due to past actions, transitioning her from the role of aggressor into that of a victim. Both women are shown searching desperately for justification—whether to leave their homeland or to remain, clinging to the hope of a brighter “morning after.”
Key production roles were filled by Dario Sekulovski, serving as the Director of Photography, and David Dulev, handling the editing duties. Director Bjosha himself took on the role of Production Designer, overseeing the visual aesthetics. The project was brought to fruition by Cinemon Media Factory and Revolution Production, working in close cooperation with Alfa Nacionalna Televizija.
