Willem Dafoe Honored with Honorary Heart of Sarajevo at 31st Film Festival

The 31st Sarajevo Film Festival, running from August 15th to 22nd, 2025, is celebrating acclaimed actor Willem Dafoe with its highest honor, the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo. This award recognizes Dafoe's significant and lasting contributions to cinema.

Dafoe, known for his remarkable versatility and bold performances across more than 150 films, has a career marked by collaborations with renowned directors such as Martin Scorsese, Wes Anderson, and Oliver Stone. His notable works include "Platoon," "The Florida Project," and "The Last Temptation of Christ."

In addition to receiving the award, Dafoe participated in a masterclass, sharing his insights on art and filmmaking with emerging talents and industry professionals. The session, moderated by Neil Young, delved into his creative process, early experiences in experimental theater, and his continuous pursuit of the unknown in his artistic journey.

The Sarajevo Film Festival, a significant showcase of global cinema, features Ukrainian filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa as the jury president for the feature film competition. The festival's extensive program includes numerous film screenings, discussions, and educational events, reinforcing Sarajevo's position as a key center for film appreciation and development.
