Gomorrah Prequel Chronicling Pietro Savastano's Rise Set for Sky Debut in January 2026

The highly anticipated prequel to the acclaimed crime saga Gomorrah, titled Le Origini, is slated for its premiere on January 9, 2026. This new six-part series will debut exclusively across Sky channels and be available via the NOW streaming service. The narrative plunges viewers back into Naples during the pivotal year of 1977. It meticulously charts the formative years of the man who would become the notorious crime boss, Pietro Savastano. The central focus revolves around his initial entry into the criminal underworld, driven by a profound desire for a better life and an intense devotion to Imma.

Drawing inspiration from Roberto Saviano's bestselling novel, Gomorrah, this series significantly expands the established franchise universe. It promises an unprecedented look at the genesis of Savastano’s eventual power structure. Marco D’Amore, widely recognized for his portrayal of Ciro Di Marzio in the original series and for directing the feature film L’immortale, helmed the direction for the first four installments. D’Amore also shared writing credits and served as the creative supervisor, skillfully weaving a narrative thread that connects directly to the original television show. The final two episodes were entrusted to the direction of Francesco Giacchio. The project’s creation is credited to Leonardo Fazolli, Maddalena Ravalli, and Roberto Saviano, with international distribution managed by Beta Film.

The role of the young, ambitious Pietro Savastano, who is approximately fifteen years old when the story begins, is undertaken by Luca Lubrano. Lubrano characterizes his version of the protagonist as a natural leader, deeply loyal to his friends, yet simultaneously brimming with emotion, fear, and a yearning for redemption. This contrasts sharply with the hardened fury of the adult Savastano audiences know. Pietro’s journey into crime commences with petty theft and sheer survival tactics within the impoverished districts of Secondigliano. His aspiration is to achieve the prosperity exemplified by the local crime figure known as Angelo 'A Sirena' (The Siren).

This early period is defined by cigarette smuggling—an enterprise that predates the later heroin trade—and it serves as a mirror reflecting the broader social upheaval occurring in Naples at the time. A crucial turning point for the adolescent Savastano is his introduction to Angelo 'A Sirena', portrayed by Francesco Pellegrino, who is then a young regent within Secondigliano’s hierarchy. Pietro’s induction into this criminal sphere under Angelo’s tutelage forces him into a perilous struggle for dominance. This environment compels him to question whether this dark, violent existence is truly what he desires, or if his love for Imma (played by Tullia Venezia) holds the potential to steer him toward a different path.

Imma is depicted as a gifted musician whose aspirations extend beyond the confines of Naples, lending significant emotional complexity to the unfolding drama. The supporting cast features Flavio Furno as 'O Paisano, an individual intent on reforming the Camorra structure even from behind bars. Additionally, Fabiola Balestriere steps into the role of a young Annalisa Magliocca, who is destined to become the formidable Scianel. Comprising six hour-long episodes, the series promises a penetrating social commentary on the deep roots of organized crime in the region, presenting Naples as a metropolis standing on the precipice of profound change. The announcement of the premiere, made during the tenth-anniversary celebrations of Gomorrah, marks a significant launch for the year for both Sky Studios and Cattleya, which is part of ITV Studios.
