The 83rd annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony, held on January 11, 2026, at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, officially kicked off the 2026 awards season. With comedian Nikki Glaser returning to host the event, the gathering brought together major figures from the film and television industries to honor the best works released throughout 2025.
The top prizes in cinema were split between two standout projects. Chloe Zhao’s dramatic feature, Hamlet, based on the novel by Maggie O’Farrell, secured the award for Best Motion Picture – Drama. Furthermore, Jessie Buckley earned a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Agnes Hathaway (Shakespeare) in the film, taking home the trophy for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama. The narrative of Hamlet delves into the tragic story of William Shakespeare’s 11-year-old son, Hamnet, exploring the profound impact his death had on the family and ultimately inspiring the creation of the play Hamlet.
In the musical or comedy category, Paul Thomas Anderson’s film One More Time emerged as the clear frontrunner. This picture, which reportedly garnered nine nominations—tying with Emilia Perez—walked away with four statuettes in total. Among these wins were Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and significant recognition for Anderson himself, who was named Best Director and won for Best Screenplay. The film, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor in key roles, garnered substantial critical acclaim. Teyana Taylor was specifically honored with the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her performance in the same movie.
The acting accolades for live-action film also highlighted international achievements. Wagner Moura made history by becoming the first Brazilian actor to win in his category, securing the prize for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for his work in the thriller The Secret Agent. This same film was also recognized as Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language. Timothy Chalamet triumphed in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category for his role in Marty Supreme, narrowly beating out Leonardo DiCaprio. Rose Byrne claimed the title of Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her performance in I’d Kick You If I Could. Additionally, Stellan Skarsgård received a statuette for Best Supporting Actor for his contribution to Sentimental Value.
The television landscape also delivered its share of memorable moments. The Netflix limited series Transition Age proved to be a major success story, clinching four awards. Its actor, Owen Cooper, who won for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series, set a record as the youngest recipient in the history of the Golden Globe Awards. The ceremony also celebrated the debut award in the newly established category of Best Podcast, which was claimed by the comedy project Good Hang with Amy Poehler.
