Hollywood icon Nicolas Cage is reportedly in advanced negotiations to star in the fifth season of HBO's 'True Detective' and is also set to portray the titular character in a live-action 'Spider-Man Noir' series.
The upcoming season of 'True Detective' is slated for a 2027 premiere and will be set against the backdrop of Jamaica Bay, New York City. Issa López, who received critical acclaim for 'True Detective: Night Country,' is returning as writer and showrunner. This new season will offer a different urban setting compared to the icy isolation of 'Night Country.'
In addition to his potential role in 'True Detective,' Cage is preparing to embody Spider-Man Noir in a live-action series scheduled for a 2026 debut on MGM+ and Prime Video. The series will follow an aging private investigator in 1930s New York City, a role that revisits Cage's acclaimed voice performance as the character in 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.' The series, developed by Oren Uziel and co-showrun by Steve Lightfoot, is produced by Sony Pictures Television and is intended to be part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe.
Filming for the 'Spider-Man Noir' series took place in Los Angeles from August 2024 to March 2025, utilizing black-and-white cameras to capture its distinct film noir aesthetic. The series will offer viewers the option to watch it in both black-and-white and full color.
Nicolas Cage's career is noted for his ability to inhabit complex characters, making his potential lead roles in both 'True Detective' and 'Spider-Man Noir' highly anticipated by audiences.
