Charlie Chaplin's 1925 silent comedy classic, "The Gold Rush," has been restored in 4K to commemorate its 100th anniversary. The restoration premiered at the Cannes Film Festival's 78th edition, marking the film's centenary. Following its debut, the restored version was released in cinemas worldwide on June 26, 2025, coinciding with the exact date of its original premiere in 1925. This global re-release included over 250 screenings across more than 70 territories, in collaboration with various local distributors and cinema networks. The restoration aimed to closely replicate the original 1925 version, as Chaplin had re-released the film in 1942 with added sound and narration, which differed from the original silent version. The 4K restoration was carried out by La Cineteca di Bologna, utilizing materials from several archives, including the BFI National Archive, Blackhawk Films, and the Museum of Modern Art. The film's enduring appeal is highlighted by its blend of adventure, romance, and comedy, solidifying its status as a timeless masterpiece in cinema history.
