Jung Il-woo's Film 'Going to Abandon Mom' Highlights Cross-Cultural Storytelling in the Entertainment Industry

16:50, 24 July

Edited by: Anulyazolotko Anulyazolotko

South Korean actor Jung Il-woo is set to promote the film 'Mang Mẹ Đi Bỏ' (Going to Abandon Mom) in Vietnam, a collaboration between Vietnam and South Korea. This film, directed by Korean filmmaker Mo Hong-jin, explores a son's journey caring for his mother with Alzheimer's, adding emotional depth to the romantic journey of Le Thị Hạnh. The film features Vietnamese actors Tuan Trần, Hồng Đào, and Juliet Bảo Ngọc, with Jung Il-woo portraying Jeong-min, a Korean husband. Early screenings are scheduled for July 30 and 31, 2025, with a nationwide release on August 1, 2025. This film's release highlights the growing trend of cross-cultural collaborations in the entertainment industry. The casting of Jung Il-woo, a well-known Korean actor, is a strategic move to attract international viewers, particularly those familiar with Korean dramas and films. The film's focus on Alzheimer's also taps into a universal theme, as the number of people affected by the disease is projected to reach 139 million worldwide by 2050. The film's plot, centered around a son's care for his mother, is a poignant narrative that can find resonance across cultures. The use of a Korean actor in a Vietnamese film suggests a commitment to bridging cultural gaps and promoting understanding through storytelling. The film's release in Vietnam, with early screenings and a nationwide launch, shows the importance of local distribution strategies. The film's success will depend on its ability to connect with audiences on an emotional level, which is a key factor in the film industry.
