At the heart of this Victorian-era drama is a nineteen-year-old Sherlock Holmes, portrayed by Hero Fiennes Tiffin. This iteration of the character is markedly different from the polished versions played by Benedict Cumberbatch or Robert Downey Jr., presenting a raw, impulsive, and unrefined young man. The plot kicks off with a high-stakes investigation into a murder at Oxford University, where Sherlock is serving as a scout or servant—a humbling role imposed upon him as punishment for a recent stint in prison.
