The Romanian city of Constanta is gearing up to host the highly anticipated Second International Comedy Film Festival. This significant cultural event is scheduled to take place from October 31 through November 2, 2025. Organized by the Theodor T. Burada County Cultural Center, the festival is designed to establish a crucial platform for creative interaction and cultural exchange within the realm of comedic arts. All screenings and associated events will be held at the Jean Constantin Multifunctional Educational Center for Youth.

The forum’s mission extends beyond simple public entertainment; it seeks to provide a dedicated space for profound reflection on contemporary reality, viewed specifically through the distinctive, often challenging, lens of comedy. The organizers are committed to showcasing the genre's multifaceted nature, ensuring the program features a broad spectrum of cinematic works. This diverse selection encompasses everything from acclaimed European comedies and domestic features to specialized animated productions. International festivals of this caliber play a vital role in advancing national cultures, fostering mutual influence, and building strong cross-border connections.

The schedule promises to be both intensive and multi-layered, offering attendees of all ages much more than standard film viewing. A key feature of the program involves engaging question-and-answer sessions with prominent figures in the industry, allowing the audience a deeper look behind the cinematic curtain. Confirmed personalities participating in these discussions include renowned critic Irina-Margareta Nistor and actress Magda Catone.

Complementing the film screenings and discussions are several interactive elements designed to engage participants directly. The program incorporates hands-on masterclasses led by experts such as Paul Ipate, providing practical insight into comedic performance and filmmaking techniques. Adding an element of spectacle and fun, the festival will also feature parades of life-sized puppets, ensuring a vibrant and festive atmosphere throughout the three-day event.

The festival will reach its high point with a special performance by celebrated stand-up comedian Dan Badea. Industry experts note that events like this are crucial for dismantling stereotypical perceptions of comedy, offering fresh perspectives that resonate with modern worldviews and sensibilities. This gathering is positioned as a prime opportunity for filmmakers, actors, critics, and the general public to strengthen professional and personal bonds through shared laughter and the universal language of cinema, ultimately opening new horizons of understanding.

The ambition to transform Constanta into a regional “capital of humor” is both deliberate and strategic. In a broader cultural context, international festivals serve as essential venues for demonstrating artistic achievements and exchanging best practices, drawing significant national and international attention to the region’s cultural potential. Constanta, which holds historical significance due to its connection with the exile of the poet Ovid, is now forging a new cultural identity—one driven by the lightness, wit, and profound social insight inherent in the art of comedy.
