The iconic Brazilian film "Carlota Joaquina, Princess of Brazil" is set to return to cinemas in 2025, celebrating its 30th anniversary with a remastered 4K release.
Directed by Carla Camurati and starring Marieta Severo and Marco Nanini, the film originally premiered in 1995. It marked a significant moment in Brazilian cinema, known as the "Retomada," and captivated audiences with its humorous critique of Brazil's formation and innovative aesthetic.
The film tells the story of Spanish infanta Carlota Joaquina, who was betrothed to Prince John of Portugal. The narrative explores the political and personal relationships that led to the Portuguese court's relocation to Brazil during the Napoleonic invasions. The remastered version will be available in cinemas on August 14, 2025, in ten Brazilian capital cities, with sponsorship from Petrobras. The film is also available on Netflix Brazil since May 24, 2025.
