'Al Shatr,' the latest film starring Amir Karara, has achieved significant commercial success in Egypt, grossing 84 million EGP over its first five weeks in theaters. The film continued its strong performance into its fifth week, adding an additional 8 million EGP to its total earnings.
'Al Shatr' follows the comedic and adventurous journey of Adham, portrayed by Karara, as he travels across Turkey in search of his friend Fattouh. Their adventure takes an unexpected turn with the introduction of Carmen, a singer whose presence adds a new dynamic to their quest, leading to a series of humorous and suspenseful events.
Karara expressed his satisfaction with the project, particularly highlighting his collaboration with director Ahmed El Gendy. "The film is a new experience for me, and it's the first time I've worked with director Ahmed El Gendy, who is a great and prominent director," Karara stated. He further praised El Gendy's comedic sensibilities and the contributions of the ensemble cast, including Mostafa Ghareeb and Hana Al Zahid.
The film boasts a notable cast, featuring Hana Al Zahid, Adel Karam, Mostafa Ghareeb, Ahmed Asssam El Sayed, and Khaled El Sawy. Ahmed El Gendy also penned the screenplay alongside Karim Youssef. Synergy, a prominent production company, is behind the film's production. This release marks Karara's return to the big screen after his 2023 film 'El Ba'b' screened during Eid al-Adha.
The Egyptian film industry has experienced a resurgence, with total box office revenues seeing a substantial increase in recent years. In 2019, the industry generated EGP 1.2 billion. Synergy Films, established in 2017, has been instrumental in this growth, producing and financing numerous blockbusters and significantly contributing to the local box office.
