Angelina Jolie Stars in 'Maria': A Glimpse into Opera Legend's Life

On September 26, a teaser for 'Maria,' starring Angelina Jolie as opera icon Maria Callas, was unveiled, showcasing stunning visuals and emotional depth. Set against the backdrop of a lavish opera house, the clip opens with a poignant question: 'Maria, what do you want to sing?'

'Maria' is the third film in Chilean director Pablo Larraín's trilogy about notable 20th-century women, following 'Jackie' and 'Spencer.' Both previous films earned Oscar nominations for their leads, and Jolie is anticipated to follow suit after a strong premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where the film garnered an eight-minute standing ovation.

The film will be released in select U.S. cinemas on November 27, 2024, before streaming on Netflix on December 11, 2024. UK audiences will have to wait until January 10, 2025, for a theatrical release, though the London Film Festival will feature screenings from October 18-20.

With a screenplay by Steven Knight, 'Maria' promises to explore the tumultuous life of the legendary soprano during her final days in 1970s Paris. Jolie is joined by Kodi Smit-McPhee and Alba Rohrwacher in a stellar international cast, further heightening anticipation for this intimate portrayal of a musical legend.
