Ghanaian brand Ometsey made a notable impression at the 15th annual Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) 2025, held from August 9-10 at Space House. The brand showcased its signature minimalist aesthetic, characterized by clean cuts and refined details, as part of a British Council initiative supporting emerging African designers.

This platform provided Ometsey and nine other designers from across Africa an opportunity to connect with international markets and foster collaborations. The British Council's Creative DNA program, which has supported over 200 fashion entrepreneurs since 2020, aims to bolster fashion entrepreneurship in Sub-Saharan Africa through mentorship and global exposure. AFWL 2025 also highlighted the integration of technology in fashion, exploring collaborations between African designers and experts in AI, robotics, and virtual reality.

The British Council's involvement underscores its commitment to sustainable growth and cultural exchange between Africa and the UK. Africa Fashion Week London, celebrating its 15th anniversary, has historically connected designers with new audiences and industry professionals. The 2025 event featured an Adire Festival, tributes to fashion icons, discussions on sustainable practices, and showcased over 30 African-heritage brands. The Creative DNA program specifically aids designers from countries including Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia, offering insights into UK manufacturing and ethical production.
