The Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome and Palazzo Reale in Milan are jointly hosting exhibitions to celebrate the centenary of Mario Giacomelli's birth, running from May to August 2025. These exhibitions, titled "Mario Giacomelli: The Photographer and the Artist" (Rome) and "Mario Giacomelli: The Photographer and the Poet" (Milan), showcase over 600 original prints, many previously unexhibited.
Curated by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi and Katiuscia Biondi Giacomelli, the Rome exhibition emphasizes the connection between Giacomelli's photography and contemporary visual arts, featuring dialogues between his work and masters like Afro Basaldella, Alberto Burri, Jannis Kounellis, Enzo Cucchi, and Roger Ballen. A dedicated space highlights his renowned series "I do not have hands that touch my face" (1961-1963).
The Milan exhibition explores Giacomelli's relationship with poetry, displaying images inspired by poets and his collaboration with Francesco Permunian. Both exhibitions offer complementary perspectives on Giacomelli's artistic vision and his impact on photography and visual culture.
