On June 18, 2025, Le Havre, France, marked a significant step in its cultural development with the laying of the first stone for the Antoine Rufenacht Contemporary Art Center. This project involves the rehabilitation of the former André Graillot space, transforming it into a major hub for contemporary art.
Located on the Southampton quay, the center will repurpose a building that previously served as the Port Center and a ferry terminal. The anticipated opening is scheduled for early 2027, with a budget of 12 million euros. This funding comes from both European and local sources, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the project.
The center is designed to work closely with local institutions, forming part of a broader cultural and tourist route. This initiative coincides with the 20th anniversary of Le Havre's UNESCO World Heritage Site designation, aiming to boost the city's cultural profile and offer a new venue for contemporary art.
