Asaan Heritage Museum: Tradition Meets Modernity in Saudi Arabia

Edited by: Ек Soshnikova

The Asaan Misk Heritage Museum, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA), is a new cultural landmark in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, blending historical roots and contemporary design. Supported by the Misk Foundation, this project marks ZHA's first foray into earthen construction, honoring Saudi heritage.

Located in Diriyah's At-Turaif district, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Asaan Museum is inspired by Najdi architecture. Its adobe walls, made from local clay mud-bricks, provide natural insulation against the desert heat, reducing energy use and promoting sustainability.

The museum features three shaded courtyards that serve as hubs for education, art, and administration. As part of the Diriyah Gate masterplan, the Asaan Museum aims to transform the city into a climate-resilient cultural center, offering an engaging and educational heritage experience for visitors.
