Powerful M8.4 Solar Flare Erupts from Active Region 4114, Potentially Impacting Earth

Edited by: Uliana S.

On June 15, 2025, the Sun unleashed a significant solar flare, classified as an M8.4 event. This powerful burst of energy originated from Active Region 4114, as reported by the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center.

The flare, which peaked at approximately 18:00 UTC, caused a moderate radio blackout (R2). It was also accompanied by a Type IV Radio Emission, indicating a strong coronal mass ejection (CME) was likely produced. Forecasters are analyzing imagery to determine if the CME is Earth-directed.

Such events can disrupt radio communications and potentially affect satellite operations and power grids. Ongoing monitoring by space weather agencies is crucial for assessing and mitigating potential impacts on technological systems. Geomagnetic storm watches are in effect, and updates will be provided as more data becomes available.
