Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost lunar lander successfully touched down on the moon on March 2, marking the second private mission to achieve this milestone. The lander, carrying experiments for NASA, landed near Mons Latreille in Mare Crisium. Firefly Aerospace, a startup founded a decade ago, becomes the first private company to achieve a soft landing on the moon without crashing. The mission is part of NASA's commercial lunar delivery program. Blue Ghost transmitted images from the lunar surface, including a selfie and a view of Earth. The lander will conduct experiments for two weeks before lunar daytime ends. Another lander from Intuitive Machines is expected to land on the moon later this week.
