In June 2025, a collection of historical documents from Kilravock Castle near Inverness was sold at auction in Edinburgh. This included five letters signed by Mary, Queen of Scots, including one signed jointly with her husband, Lord Darnley.

A letter, urging the Rose family — owners of Kilravock Castle and loyal supporters of Mary — to maintain peace in Inverness, sold for £15,000. Other letters fetched between £10,000 and £11,300. The documents date back to the 16th century and reflect the complex political climate in Scotland at the time.

These historical letters show important aspects of power and influence in Scotland, where Inverness Castle held strategic importance and was a subject of conflict between local clans. The sale of the documents helps preserve the legacy and deepen the understanding of the country's political history during the era of Mary Stuart.
