Archaeologists have discovered three unique tombs, approximately 1800 years old, built in the style of a residential house. These tombs date back to the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD) and were found in Rizhao, Shandong Province, China, during excavations on the site of a future city park.
Two of the tombs were partially looted, while the third, designated M3, remained largely untouched. The architecture of the tombs includes rooms, wooden doors, and windows, mimicking the living spaces familiar to that era.
Inside, around 70 artifacts were found, including bronze mirrors, lacquered vessels, pottery, jade items, and an iron sword. Inscriptions with the family name "Huan" were discovered on two of the tombs, indicating that they belonged to the same family.
Furthermore, archaeologists found fragments of a carriage used for transporting the coffin – a rare and exquisitely crafted find. This discovery sheds light on the burial practices, family connections, and everyday culture of the Han era.
