Archaeologists have concluded their research at the submerged Neolithic settlement in Soline, Korčula, Croatia, in May 2025. Led by the University of Zadar's archaeology department, this year's excavation focused on the settlement's structure and defenses.
The team successfully defined the outer edge of a wall that fortified the settlement, which they believe connects to a road discovered in 2023. According to project leader Mate Parica, this wall likely served as a protective barrier for the settlement, dating back approximately 7,000 years.
Numerous damaged flint arrowheads were also unearthed, potentially indicating conflicts near the wall. Further analysis of these arrowheads promises to reveal more about the historical events that transpired at this significant Neolithic site. British documentary filmmaker Bettany Hughes also visited the site during the excavation, highlighting the international interest in this groundbreaking discovery.
