Dacian Silver Treasure Unearthed in Romania
Two men using metal detectors discovered a collection of Dacian silver artifacts near Breaza, Romania. The find includes bracelets, decorations, a necklace, and a belt, totaling 550 grams. Experts believe these well-crafted items belonged to someone of high status in Dacian society.
The Dacians were an ancient people who primarily inhabited the regions of modern-day Romania and Moldova. Their kingdom existed from 60 BC to 106 AD, frequently engaging in conflicts with the Roman Empire. Emperor Trajan eventually conquered Dacia, establishing a Roman province that lasted until the late 3rd century.
Dionisie-Aurel Moldovan and Sebastian-Adrian Zăhan reported their discovery to authorities. The artifacts are now under the care of the Mureș County Museum. It is speculated that the jewelry was intentionally buried over a thousand years ago, possibly as an offering to a forgotten deity or hidden during wartime.
