Astronomers, led by Rodrigo Herrera-Camus from the Millennium Nucleus of Galaxies (MINGAL) at the University of Concepción, have unveiled the most comprehensive image yet of the early universe through the CRISTAL project.
Using the ALMA observatory, researchers studied the cold gas in early galaxies, revealing complex structures, galactic winds, and unexpectedly high amounts of cosmic dust and metals.
These findings challenge existing galaxy formation models and open new avenues for research, with further analysis underway using the James Webb Space Telescope to study the properties of hot gas and elemental composition.
