Exoplanet Discovered Orbiting Barnard's Star

Edited by: Uliana S.

An exoplanet, named Barnard B, has been discovered orbiting Barnard's Star, the closest single star to our Sun, located approximately 6 light-years away. The discovery, made using the Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile, reveals that Barnard B has about half the mass of Venus and orbits its star in just over three Earth days. Despite its proximity to Barnard's Star, the exoplanet is not habitable due to a surface temperature of approximately -125°C. Researchers also observed evidence suggesting the presence of three additional planetary bodies within the system. Barnard's Star is approximately 10 billion years old, twice the age of our Sun.
