Red Alert Issued for Heavy Rains in Northeast India

A red alert has been issued for several states in Northeast India due to heavy rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the alert for Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Manipur. Heavy rains have been occurring in these states since Thursday night, disrupting daily life.

The rainfall is attributed to a pressure system originating over Bangladesh and moving towards the northeast. The IMD forecasts light to moderate rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand over the next 24 hours. Heavy rain is also expected in East Bihar, East Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh.

Other regions experiencing rainfall include Lakshadweep, coastal Karnataka, and Northeast India. Light to moderate rain has also been recorded in Tamil Nadu, Marathwada, South Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Bihar. Strong winds are also likely in some areas.
