Record flooding has struck New South Wales, Australia, following days of torrential rainfall. The Manning River in Taree surged to 6.3 meters, exceeding the 1929 record. Emergency services are struggling to reach residents stranded on rooftops.
Since Monday, Taree has been lashed with 415mm of rain, over four times the monthly average for May. State Emergency Services have conducted over 150 flood rescues overnight. Approximately 16,000 people are expected to remain isolated.
Authorities warn that more heavy rain is expected in the next 48 hours. Some areas could receive up to 200mm before conditions improve. The situation remains dynamic and challenging for rescue efforts.
