Mumbai experienced severe flooding and widespread disruption on August 18, 2025, due to intense rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert, anticipating extremely heavy rainfall. The Santacruz observatory recorded 91.5 mm of rain in a three-hour period, leading to inundation of key areas like Andheri and Bandra. Transportation networks were significantly impacted, with commuters facing traffic congestion and delays on local train services. Airlines issued travel advisories due to potential airport access issues. A building staircase collapse in South Mumbai resulted in injuries to three individuals.

Areas such as Chembur received 177.2 mm of rainfall by early afternoon, with Vikhroli and Juhu also reporting substantial amounts. The Western Express Highway experienced significant traffic jams. The intensity of the rain increased from 9 a.m., affecting numerous low-lying areas including the Andheri Subway and Lokhandwala Complex. In response, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared a holiday for schools and colleges. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reviewed the situation. The IMD's red alert extended to Thane and Raigad districts. The cumulative rainfall for the season had already surpassed 1,000 mm at both Colaba and Santacruz observatories by August 17. Nine flights experienced 'go-arounds' and one was diverted due to adverse weather. The injured in the staircase collapse were identified as Paresh Sosate (30), Parag Nazijka (40), and Damayanti Rathod (70), all reported to be in stable condition.
